About this conversion
“Klick” is real military slang for a kilometer, used constantly across Star Wars, Star Trek and modern war films alike, it's not made up for the screen, it dates back to at least the Vietnam War. The parsec is also a real unit, but Star Wars famously misuses it: a parsec measures distance (3.26 light-years), not time, which is why Han Solo boasting the Falcon “made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs” is, technically, nonsense, unless you read it as bragging about cutting a shorter, more dangerous route through space.
This converter treats both units literally and accurately: klick as an exact stand-in for kilometer, and parsec at its real astronomical value, so you can see just how far 12 parsecs, or a few hundred klicks on foot, really is.
Units supported: Meters, kilometers, klicks, miles, astronomical units, light-years, parsecs.
Source note: Klick ≡ 1 km (established military slang). Parsec ≡ 3.0857×10¹³ km (real astronomical unit).
